So my cute friends David and Ali are getting married, and it's been an absolute blast working with them on the details! They're getting married in California in a private ceremony, then they are hosting an east coast reception upon their return. This invitation is both an announcement of their upcoming marriage, and an invitation to their bash. Congratulations Ali and David!

I think in August there is going to be an out of control number of posts. There is a backlog of pictures and projects to be posted that I have not been able to sit down and get online yet this summer. The wedding season just keeps getting longer, and we're not complaining. But I don't want to bore you or have you thinking we've been up to nothing over here, so I thought I would post a recent favorite - woodgrain details. These are reception items printed on fantastic woodgrain paper. They are for an upcoming shoot in a local publication. Sorry for the terrible pictures - I'll be excited to share the details when the magazine goes to print!

INTRODUCING PETAL AND PRINT

I've been making these fabric flowers for about 2 years now (ever since my own wedding) but I could not quite find the right home for them between my two businesses, Chelle Paperie, right here, and Churchtown Chapeau Co, right here. I decided it was time for them to have a home of their own. So without further ado, I introduce Petal and Print. It's not quite complete yet, but I'm hoping the site and shop will be done by the end of July. It will eventually include both fabric flowers and ready to order paper goods. In the meantime, if you are interested in fabric flowers for your wedding or any event, please let me know! All the flowers are totally custom made by hand, out of whatever materials you like (my prefered materials are linen and silk). They can be custom dyed, and will last a lifetime! CUSTOM SILK FAVOR BAGS

By now, most of you know that we sew, and that we are willing to print on pretty much anything under the sun, and I bet you even saw a sneak peek of these a few months back, but since I have found a little tiny block of time (when I should really be sleeping) I'm going to try to get a few projects up on the blog. This was a really fun, really challenging project. Sky Blue Events came to us with the idea of an old school subway map as their jumping off point, and when they told me they were doing subway token candies as favors, I immediately knew the tiny custom printed silk bags were the way to go. I designed the layout based on the historical typography of the map they were using as the base of their design, and we kept the color palette super simple. These custom favor bags are 100% dupioni silk, printed flat and stitched into these lovely little bags. I could not be happier with the results.

INSPIRATION : SUPPER CLUB

My dear friend Jodi recently proposed that we start a rotating supper club, and she went about planning it, and got us all organized so that we could have our very first dinner last night! Jodi made the appetizers, Rachelle brought drinks, I made the main course, Mary Laurel did the side dish and Kohli made dessert. Whoever gets the main course, hosts, so I was happy that most of the flowers from my arrangement (3 weeks ago) were still going strong! I rearranged them in mason jars, threw some fabric on the table, and called it done. It was absolutely wonderful to spend time in the company of creative, enthusiastic, foodie girlfriends, and I can't wait for the next one! Oh, and why is this filed under inspiration? Because I am planning to make adorable little recipe cards for us each to fill out for our contribution each month. That way, everyone goes home with 4 new recipes, and the plan for an entire meal!

LITTLE MISS STELLA

I love that Little Stella had a fondness for poodles and that we were able to make this second birthday party invitation both sophisticated and fun! These are from last year, but I just came across them today and realized I had not featured them before. We do a lot of wedding invitations at the paperie, but we love that we also get to work on projects like this light-hearted design. Pink poodles and girly type - what is not to love?

LITTLE PRESS LETTERPRESS

I've been printing for about 7 years now, and have been collecting little presses along the way. The big one is 9x13 inches and is my go to press. I just sold the little one on the left, and the black one is just for being cute. I'm excited to have just met someone who may be able to sandblast and repaint the little beast for me, and I am thinking a high gloss cream or really pale pink would be AMAZING! Here at the Paperie, we're gearing up to letterpress all of our new corporate stationery and business cards, and I am getting excited to mix up inks and try them out!

Since photography is a love of mine, second only to stationery, I like to feature beautiful wedding photography on the blog when I get a chance! It was my pleasure to meet with Brian yesterday. He's a friend of a friend and he's on his way to Haiti for two weeks. It was nice to talk with him about the work he'll be doing there, and the work he does as a wedding photographer based in DC. INSPIRATION : FLORAL CLASS

Yesterday was such a treat! I got to go to a floral arranging class offered by Shawn at The Floral Studio! It was Mia's birthday so as her gift, I took her along. We spent the afternoon visiting with the other class members and each other, snacking on grapes and cookies, and making these seriously beautiful centerpieces. Shawn and Debbie were so patient with us as almost everyone in class was a complete novice. We learned techniques for cleaning and prepping the flowers all the way to the finishing touches to make our arrangements perfect. It was a really great way to spend a winter day and it got me really feeling inspired about spring and all the upcoming weddings we're working on here at Chellé Paperie. The Floral Studio is going to start offering the classes for sign up once their new site goes live, but Mia and I were discussing how fun it would be to email Shawn and just get together a bunch of your girlfriends or bridesmaids and have a private class. If you love flowers, I can't recommend her classes enough!

I found this photograph of a beautiful floral sash by Sash & Bustle while reading Ritzy Bee's blog this weekend, and seeing as Mondays on the blog are supposed to be about inspiration, it seemed like just the thing to get me thinking and sketching for a new set to add to our upcoming spring collection! I love the softness of the palette and the delicate petals. If I could get married again, this pretty floral belt would certainly make an appearance! I can't get over it. CUSTOM PARTY INVITATIONS

Here's a little blast from the recent past... some seriously lovely invitations we did for my Little Thanksgiving party back in November. Every project that we do is custom, including the invitations we design for ourselves. These include a stitched linen pocket, double thick chipboard & pearlized cardstock. We love this diecut shape, simple details and the art we created featuring the deer head and wreath. It felt festive, rustic and sophisticated all at the same time. We wanted these invitations to be about the materials, and about the experience of receiving them in the mail, like a special gift, so we kept the design minimal. The front reads love one another, give thanks together, and the love one another part references a sign that hangs in our kitchen. It was in my parents' house growing up, and my grandparents' house before that. When Ben and I got married last year, it was given to us as a gift. I am a person that believes very strongly in showing love to those around you and for giving thanks with and for them. Little Thanksgiving is an opportunity to do that with friends and neighbors each year. We usually host it a week or two before actual Thanksgiving. It helps get everyone in the cooking and holiday spirit!

VINTAGE GLAMOUR AT THE WALTERS ART MUSEUM

Janelle from Baltimore Bride Magazine recently asked us to set up and style a table for a segment in each issue they call "One Venue, Three Ways" We were really excited about the opportunity and got together with our friends from The Floral Studio and Kate Beck Events to create this fun look! It was all shot on location at The Walters Art Museum which is a pretty glamorous venue if you're getting married here in Baltimore! These are some shots I took while we were on the shoot. Ok, now I don't usually do a straight up plug like this, but I'm doing it now for a few reasons... one because I have known Kohli for years. We both went to MICA, and over the past few years Kohli has become a really wonderful client and friend. We designed her wedding invitations, calling cards, and now the identity for her jewelry business. In each of these projects, she's been a blast to work with. 2 - her jewelry is gorgeous, and beautifully made, and original. It's not girly or fussy, or any of that. It's well edited, constructed, and suited for any style. You can wear these with jeans and a tshirt or your favorite cocktail dress (ps - I wish I could say I had one of those). And 3 because I took these photographs, and they make me happy. I hope you enjoy them, and I hope you hop on over to K.Flick Studio to get your favorite girlfriend something fabulous this Christmas. Cocktails for Christmas

I hope that none of the people who are getting these will be reading my blog. I just couldn't wait to post these since they are oh so cute! I love to throw little parties, and even more I love to make party invitations! These are simple and small, and don't cost a ton of money. It's all over the internet today that a dollar spent on design is worth more in return than a dollar spent for technology or other things. Invitations set the tone for your party. And if you want to have a memorable one, send a memorable invitation. Don't know if you noticed, but my favorite part of this set is the beer bottle label. There is a penguin with a crown hiding in there! Up next my overdue post with little thanksgiving invitations!

FABRIC FLOWER PINS, CLIPS, & HAIRCOMBS

Here's a pretty new grey bud to add to the bunch! I've just finished dying some really soft silvery grey and a fresh light pink, so new fabric flowers will be in the shop soon! This one is actually attached to a haircomb, so it tucks perfectly in around your bun or ponytail! Measures about 4 inches wide. They're all custom dyed burberry linen, wool felt and assorted vintage buttons! These will also be available for sale at the Handmade Mart coming up this December 5th in downtown Silver Spring, so if any of you are in the DC area, come on out! We'll have stuff from the Paperie, Chapeau Co. (that shop I just set you to) and K.Flick Studios. It's going to be a really fun event, so we hope you'll stop on by! More details coming soon!

CUSTOM WOODLANDS WEDDING INVITATIONS

This is one of my all time favorite invitations. These pictures are of the mock up. They were custom built hardbound covers with the invitation mounted inside, and a clear slip that holds the reply and travel info. They have a super cute custom bunny and woodlands theme and are tied up securely with a real twig from the backyard then tucked safely into a custom wrapped chocolate boxed stuffed with floral nesting material. No, the design did not stop there (but I have no pictures) we did custom stamps and guest addressed mailing labels for the outsides of the boxes. I wish every job could be so involved. This was a LOT of handwork and production. We were covered in PVA for at least 2 weeks. And I can't even tell you how much of that nesting material worked it's way all around the studio and into our homes! But, it was a blast, and a beautiful invitation.

CUSTOM WEDDING FLOWERS AND DETAILS

I got married just about this time last year (my anniversary is coming up next weekend!) and if you saw my wedding on snippet and ink you can see the low down on how we did the whole thing for under $5000. I'm very fortunate to know a lot of people in the industry, and very fortunate to have family and friends who were willing to pitch in a lot of time and energy into making our wedding a super fantastic time. but anyway, back on track... I made my flower bouquet, out of flannel and felt, and I LOVED making it. So much so, that I have been crafting away in my spare time, and I am finally ready to put these out in the world. The bouquets measure about 11 inches wide, with a sturdy 8 inch stem. Bridesmaid blooms are 9 inches wide, and flower girl blooms will be 6 inches. They are handcrafted out of custom dyed overstock burberry linen, quality wool felt, and can have their leaf embroidered with your initials, or wedding date! The slightly smaller flower is a pretty white peony bloom that will (along with many others just like it) line the center of long rectangular tables for floral decorations at a winter wedding. And the small blooms are going to be pins, hairpieces, bouteniers, and other options coming soon. Right now, they are available through Churchtown Chapeau Co. CUSTOM COWBOY INVITATIONS - 2nd Birthday!

Rachelle and I work together on a lot of projects, but sometimes for personal projects (like this outstanding invitation for her little boy's 2nd birthday party) we like to keep secrets from each other. That way, it is still exciting to get your own in the mail! I was so excited when this arrived that I almost tore the whole envelope in half before I remembered to chill out and take some pictures to share with all of you! I cannot wait for the party, I'll be helping Rachelle with lots of decorating, planning and baking, so we'll be sure to post pics after the event!

This pretty much makes my morning. Chock full of great interior design, beautiful photography, charming illustrations and elegant digital design (check out how many viewing options you have... I recommend full screen) Lonny Mag does not disappoint. In other news, I have been CRAZY busy with a little renovation of my own. I know you think this is the longest move ever, and believe me, I do too... but the new studio is *cross your fingers* almost done! I have all the 1980's built in desks torn out, carpet pulled up to reveal beautiful wide planked wood floors, paint picked out, some pretty new chairs, the list goes on and on. All we need now is for our little half wall to be built and then the decorating begins! I can't wait to share pictures of the new space, nor can I wait to invite you all over to see it. You've been patient, but I think you will see, it's going to be worth it!

Super 8 inspiration (A Bryan Photo)

Did I mention that I LOVE the work that these guys do. They just shot Mia's wedding a few months ago, and trust me, it is worth scrolling through all the pictures, it was GORGEOUS! Here is the Super 8 film of one of their own (Branden and his pretty bride Lindsay) getting married. It was shot by Rob Culpepper. And it is magical and touching, perfectly edited and set to music. If I had known about them last year, I would have hired them and scrounged together every penny that it took to get my wedding shot on super8. Nole at Oh So Beautiful Paper introduced me to Made By Hank, Katie's line of impeccably sewn bags, and I'm hooked. Her packaging is simple and to the point, it makes you feel like you are opening a present from an old friend, and her little tags with plastic animals and lace, come on, so cute! Great as a gift for yourself or for a friend, and they come in lots of sizes. PS - Katie's customer service is spectacular. Hurry up and buy a bag, her etsy shop is almost out, but don't worry, she restocks often.

They wanted to see the resulting invite inspired by the pretty prints I posted here These are baby shower invites for the lovely Rachelle (the amazing owner/designer here at Chellé Paperie)! I'm honored to be a partner and designer here at the studio, and even more honored to host this shower and design the paper-goods to go with it. The invites got a little crazier than I originally expected, but I knew that what I wanted to take from the Amy Butler inspiration was the feeling of summer florals. Oh, how I miss you, Maine. I just got back from the most beautiful place. Lakeside in Maine, 30 minutes from Portland. It's no secret that the Paperie has been a little crazy this year, with the never-ending move, and with R having baby number 2 (countdown a few more weeks!) and with all the new business stuff we're working on. Needless to say, a week in Maine was just what I needed to clear my head, re-focus, and get even more excited about the work awaiting me upon my return! Ok, so I did work on vacation too - I go a little crazy with TOO much relaxing :) Anyway, please excuse the lazy summer posting on this blog. I LOVE these tiny little notecards! And I love an envelope with a bleed. Um, and the color pallette, RIGHT up my alley! So we made these as a gift for our wonderful intern Meagan, who we love! They are 4.25x4.25 square notecards and coordinating soft chartreuse envelopes, and we had enough scrap left over on the print job, that we cut them down into these darling gift enclosures, 2.25 inches sq. and paired them with these teensy-tiny adorable hot pink envelopes, which to be honest I am a little heartbroken to part with. The extras from that we cut into tiny little slivers to be used as gift tags or placecards for Meagan's next party. Really, these make me smile. Hope they do the same for you!

Just a quick peek at a live proof that is off in the mail. The bride and groom are still deciding on the envelope color, but the palette of cream, brown, dark and light grey makes for a beautiful and classic invitation set. We did an updated take on the monogram / flourish and combined that with a decorative frame, making this invitation formal without being fussy.

So, I'm rolling the usual tuesday and wednesday posts together today since I had a busy start to the week & didn't get to post inspiration until yesterday. These are cards, designed by Kurt, that we recently printed for Kohli. She's a good friend with great style, and a joy to work with. We did the invitations for her wedding, printed these business cards, and are now working on the re-design of Red Tree's stationery system. Kohli is their rock star assistant manager! Enough links in one post already! I wanted to showcase the simplicity of the gorgeous cotton paper these are printed on, and the crispness of the printing, and how great these look all wrapped up in (you guessed it) glassine!

Ok, so you all may not know this about me, but I used to be a professional wedding photographer... It's how I came into the land of weddings, and where I fell head over heels in love with pretty paper. It's been years since I shot a wedding, and I can't say I have missed it. It's stressful, and exhausting, and SO MUCH pressure. And then, I went to Mia's wedding, which we all worked so hard on, and which meant a great deal to us as friends of the bride and groom, and friends of some of the other vendors (we now share space with The Floral Studio who did the SPECTACULAR arrangements) and I watched Bryan work. And he shot film, from a Rollieflex, an old school twin lens camera, just like I used to shoot, and he shot with a Holga, a toy camera, just like I used to shoot, and he had an arsenal of toy cameas for playing around with. And it felt effortless and perfect. He had a second photographer shooting digitally I believe, and they shot a mix of color and black and white. I was excited, I watched them work, I knew they didn't miss a shot. There is nothing like rushing to reload film as the mother of the bride gives a speach, and STILL getting the shot. Outstanding. And here I am over a week later, still thinking about it, having an affair with film. I've pulled the polaroids out of the closet, I've ordered some film, I'm dreaming up subjects like my days in art school. This morning I got an extra special sneak peek at some of the pictures from Mia's wedding. I can not wait to share them with you once Bryan gives me the go ahead. I can't even believe how fast my desk (which was clear this morning) dissapeared under a pile of paper! These are reception materials for Mia's wedding, and we are having another craft night tonight. On the docket... eating pizza, finalizing custom guest book, printing programs, hand cutting them into the frame shape on her other stationery, punching holes and stringing ribbon, die cutting the rest of her menus, and chatting about all the remaining pieces we have left. Also, I am left to using my desktop cutter for anything smaller than 8.5x11 at the moment. The full size stack cutter is parked on the floor in my sun room as it waits to be moved into its new home. It's too hard to cut smaller paper on the floor.

WE'RE GETTING THERE

Oh, Martha, thank you again for all your little projects! Mia (one of our best brides, friends, and reccomended vendors) came over last night to work on some crafts for her upcoming wedding. Counting down, 15 days! We used an idea from a recent issue of Martha Stewart Weddings, and dressed it up a bit with additional ribbon fringe, and tails. The parasols turned out darling and I can't wait to see her flower girls walk down the aisle with these!

Oh, apologies for my first missed post in 3 weeks! I'm going to miss another today... Why? Because we are packing up the studio and MOVING! So exciting. We've closed our retail store (last month) and we are focusing 100% of our efforts on our custom invitations and design these days, and are looking forward to all the changes ahead. CINCO DE MAYO

A few years back we had a bride getting married on Cinco de Mayo in Miami! This really was a fun project. We did tons of research and created art that mimicked traditional mexican wedding paper-cuttings. The bride and groom wanted a booklet to house all the different cards that needed to be sent and we custom built the booklet, with wrapped chipboard covers and a custom converted pocket, all built by hand. We had a lot of fun, and on a rainy Cinco de Mayo like today, we just wanted to share a little brightness and cheer!

Oh, Red Tree, you have done it again! Not only are the window displays FABULOUS, (best in baltimore 2008!) the in-store displays are gorgeous as well! Right now Red Tree has a wedding themed table right inside the front door for all your wedding and bridal shower gift needs. They asked us if they could use some of our invites in the display. Now, we'll admit, we didn't think they could do it... We gave them the most random assortment of colors and styles and somehow they pulled it together into one pretty dress! It's really fun to see our work in such a beautifully designed store. We are honored. Thank you Red Tree!

Hem and Haw Designs is an event and styling studio run by Katie Watts, one of our favorite brides. If you follow our blog, you'll have gotten quite familiar with her invitations by now. Her wedding was also recently featured in Bride and Bloom magazine for spring 2009. She is a blast to work with and the unique design and colors of these calling cards speak to the kinds of styling and events Katie does. Just this past weekend she thew a Dr. Seuss themed baby shower for a mom with twins (thing two and thing one). I cannot wait to see those pictures!

Yesterday's inspiration really got me feeling sentimental and I wanted to show a project that is dearer to me than most. My grandmother recently finished writing her memoir, and commissioned us to produce a short run of 60 softbound books that she could give as gifts to each of her children and grandchildren. The book is 35 pages, with a photo collage as the end sheets and a cream satin ribbon binding. The books were then packaged in 7.5 inch square boxes printed with the same cover as the book so as to preserve them for years and years to come.

This is one of those things that I have had for years, and yet EVERY time I see it, my heart just smiles. I LOVE it. I really do. And the funny part about that is, I don't have any idea who these people are, I don't know their stories, and I have no sentimental attachment to them - yet this frame, their pose, the slow fade to yellow of this photograph, I don't know where I would be without it. We moved this weekend, and I went back to the old house this morning to do another walk through, and there is was, all by itself on the back of the door, a tiny little 3 inch frame, holding it's own in an empty house. It felt quiet, and calm, and somewhat sad. Until I packed them up in crinkled white tissue paper, and set them gently on the passenger seat of my car, to make the journey to our new house, to find their perfect spot, to keep watch over our lives here, as if they were my grandparents. I will carry them around the house with me, trying them in different places, until they find their new home.

These wedding invitations are something we finished up recently for darling Mia over at Garnish Boutique. She is getting married this June in an outdoor Garden ceremony. She requested, peonies, dragonflies, bees and bugs! Mia is in the wedding industry herself and understands the importance of paper goods in a wedding! We really stopped at nothing with this set. There is calligraphy style guest addressing, printed envelopes, die cut reply cards, even lined reply envelopes. It is a gorgeous set and it really reflects the tone of the upcoming wedding.

Well Thursdays on the schedule are a little less predictable. We've decided we need at least one day of spontinaity, and just through the luck of the draw, Thursday won it! On Thursdays we'll post whatever we feel like!

Today it is a little bit of heaven. I WISH I could say I went out and bought the Pantone paint, but I didn't. We just went to Home Depot with a Pantone swatch and found the closest match! What might you ask is painted such an insanely bright pink? Well, for starters, let's say this color is an Ode to Hampden, it's called Flamingo Pink.... and it lines the insides of the closets in my husband's and my brand new house! We painted the closets pink, for a little element of surprise and whimsy. It just puts a smile on your face. And aside from tying it in to design by choosing colors based on Pantone matches, it reminds me of an envelope liner. See how I did that? Enjoy!

Wednesdays on the new schedule are going to be focused on corporate clients, so to kick it off, we are featuring Baltimore's very own "GIRL ABOUT TOWN," Stephanie Bradshaw! Stephanie came to us when she needed to re-brand her ID to convey all the different design services she offers under one fashionable umbrella. She offers retail, event and interior design as well as a fabulous newsletter titled Girl About Town. Stephanie came to us with some existing elements and we took those and ran with them. The result, a simplified color palette, bold silhouette, and just enough swirl!

We are starting a new blog schedule here at the paperie! Mondays as you saw yesterday will always be INSPIRATION posts, and Tuesdays, FROM THE DESK OF. This is where we will feature current projects either in production or like this one, ready to be picked up.

These are the product of yesterday's inspiration post! Amy at Crimson and Clover asked us for help with her table for this year's Great Chef's Dinner. Her theme - a Parisian Patisserie! You cannot even believe my delight when she told me this! What we did was design & print the subtle light pink cake pattern on slim glassine bags, leaving the frame in the middle blank, then we printed the front of the menu with the title/design and the chef's name along the bottom, so they would show through the blank spots on the glassine. We printed the menu on the back. Pretty simple, but what a stunning result! We rounded the corners and added a ribbon for a little decoration and function, it makes the menu easier to pull out of the glassine sleeve. Best of luck to Amy at this year's event!

It really is. Here is the view out our window at the shop. Sorry for all the reflection from our laterns. It gets really pretty when the sun goes down, I love the way the logo on the glass becomes so clear against the dark outside. You all cannot miss Hampden at Christmas time! Not only is the shopping spectacular, a few blocks down on 34th street each year, the lights are on for Miracle on 34th street, a Hampden Holiday tradition!
